This is a traditional Japanese wooden bath bucket with handle made of hinoki, a type of Japanese cypress wood optimal for humid environments such as bathrooms.
Skilled craftsmen select the best hinoki limbers with straight grain, which are generally stronger than other types of grain. The finishing is made manually with the help of a hand plane tool. This process is time-consuming but increases the water resistance and durability of the wood, thus extending the life of wood products.
